The widow of NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt reveals plans for her vast land estate

Teresa Earnhardt, widow of late NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt, plans to convert 399 of her rural tracts of east Mooresville into an industrial park, according to her application to rezone the vast former farmland.

The Mooresville Technology Park would be located between Patterson Farm Road and Rustic Road near Cabarrus County. The park would be located directly off NC 3, also known as the Dale Earnhardt Highway.

The site is 2 1/2 miles from Dale Earnhardt Inc., Earnhardt's longtime racing headquarters on NC 3 in Mooresville.

Earnhardt, a Kannapolis native, died in a crash on the final lap of the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway on February 18, 2001.

When they renamed the state highway in front of Earnhardt's headquarters to NC 3 years ago, state highway officials denied to The Charlotte Observer that it had anything to do with Earnhardt's famous license plate.

According to the meeting agenda, Teresa Earnhardt is scheduled to request the rezoning at the Oct. 22 Mooresville Planning Board meeting.

The property owner name was listed as Earnhardt Farms LLC. Teresa Earnhardt is the sole managing member of the LLC, according to NC Secretary of State records.

The Planning Board is an advisory body that makes recommendations on rezoning applications to the Mooresville Board of Commissioners, which has final say. No date has been set for the commissioners to consider the application
