The Yellow Lake Fire is consuming 1,500 acres of national forest covered in dead and fallen timber

The Yellow Lake Fire has reached 1,500 acres, which includes burning wood and dead and fallen timber east and south of Mill Hollow Reservoir. The fire has reached the east side of Highway 35 and Highway 35 is now closed.

Evacuations were in place in the following parts of Wasatch County: Duchesne Ridge, Mill Hollow, Wolf Creek and Soapstone Pass.

On Saturday around 3:30 p.m., the Wasatch County 911 center received a report that a wildfire had broken out on the east side of the county.

Firefighting equipment and emergency personnel responded. Within hours, campers in the area closest to the fire were evacuated. The fire was estimated to be 30 hectares in size.

As of Sunday morning, the fire had grown to an estimated 130 acres. The weather forecast predicted afternoon winds of up to 50-60 mph, and by evening the estimate grew to 150 acres and then to 1,500 acres.

Aircraft with firefighting capabilities are on site. According to the Wasatch County Sheriff's Office, additional aircraft have been ordered.

SR 35 at Noblett's Trailhead (milepost 12) and Wolf Creek Pass (milepost 19.5) are closed except to emergency vehicles.

The Sheriff's Office and Search and Rescue are notifying people in the restricted area that they need to evacuate.

Wasatch County deputies and Utah Highway Patrol troopers are assisting with road closures.

The affected area is largely public and managed by the US Forest Service. Wasatch County Public Works, Fire District, Utah Forestry and State Lands are assisting.
