There was heavy rain and storms over the weekend

Wind and rain are increasing across New Mexico. The heaviest rainfall is expected later this evening and on Saturday.

A strong low pressure system continues to move toward New Mexico. Today it is concentrated in northern Arizona. This low pressure is bringing heavy rain to New Mexico. The heaviest rainfall is expected in eastern New Mexico. Flooding may occur in areas with burn scars. The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Hermits Peak Calf Canyon Burn Scar area. This watch is in effect today until the night of Saturday, October 18th. This heavy rain will begin tonight and continue through Saturday night. The rain will continue on Sunday but will not be as heavy.

The low pressure will also create windy conditions across the state. A wind advisory has been issued for central New Mexico. Wind gusts of up to 55 miles per hour are possible. Strong wind gusts are expected across the state.

A cold front is also moving through New Mexico today. By early evening, the front will be positioned across northwestern New Mexico. It will continue across the state until Saturday evening. This front will cause a noticeable drop in temperatures on Saturday. High temperatures will continue to fall until Monday next week.

Snow continues to fall today in southwest Colorado and the northern mountains of New Mexico. Southwest Colorado has seen the largest accumulations in recent days. However, Taos Ski Valley and Santa Fe Ski have experienced severe weather in the last few days. Snow is expected to continue at very high altitudes through the weekend.
