Thunder sign Buddy Boeheim, cut Alex Reese

The thunder have made two changes to the squad and today announced that they have signed forwards Buddy Boeheim and waived forward Alex Reese. Oklahoma City still has 20 players on its preseason roster, one under the limit.

The Thunder and Boeheim agreed to the terms of a Schedule 10 contract back in early July, just a few days after he was released by the Pistons.

The son of the longtime Syracuse coach Jim BoeheimBuddy spent most of the 2023-24 season with Motor City Cruise, Detroit's G League affiliate, before being promoted to the Pistons on a two-way contract in February.

The younger Boeheim played in just 10 NBA games last season and played just a few minutes, but played in 47 Showcase Cups, averaging 15.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 26.8 minutes per game – and regular season operations play an important role for the cruise. He made an impressive 41.9% of 8.0 three-point attempts per game while also hitting 86.0% of his free throws.

The Oklahoma City Blue – the Thunder's G League affiliate – acquired Boeheim's return rights in a trade with the Cruise this offseason, so the plan appears to be to release him before the start of the NBA season and report him to the Blues let. This should also be the next step for Reese. Both players will receive Exhibit 10 bonuses worth up to $77.5K if they spend at least 60 days with OKC's NBAGL team.
