Tigers vs. Guardians score, live updates: AL Central rivals play ALDS Game 5 for a chance to face the Yankees in ALCS

After the New York Yankees punched their ticket to the American League Championship Series with a 3-1 series win over the Kansas City Royals, the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Guardians will face each other on Saturday in the decisive Game 5 for the chance of promotion. The game was moved from the evening to the afternoon due to impending weather in Cleveland. In Thursday night's fifth game, the Tigers had a chance to tie the game, but the Guardians refused to fold, and pinch-hitter David Fry hit a go-ahead home run in the seventh inning.

The Tigers haven't been in the ALCS since 2013, when they lost to the eventual champion Red Sox. Meanwhile, the Guardians defeated the Blue Jays in the 2016 ALCS before suffering a crushing loss to the Cubs in the World Series.

Tarik Skubal will take the mound for the Tigers on Saturday and will look to build on his stellar season, including his two postseason starts – he hasn't allowed a run in 13 innings so far this October. For the Guardians, it will be Matthew Boyd, who pitched 4 2/3 scoreless innings in Cleveland's Game 2 loss to Detroit. Boyd made just eight starts late this season after returning from Tommy John surgery.

Game 1 of the ALCS takes place on Monday in New York.
