TikToker Rachel Yaffe dies 7 years after being diagnosed with liver cancer

Rachel Yaffe, a 27-year-old TikTok star with a rare form of liver cancer, has died.

According to her obituary, Yaffe died on October 11, leaving behind her parents, brother and sister.

The TikToker was first diagnosed with fibrolamellar carcinoma at the age of 20 and had over 55,000 followers when she began sharing updates about her health journey.

After reading the news of Yaffe's death, many people left comments on her online memory book.

“I have fond memories of her on the SPSG field hockey and lacrosse field. She was a star and a gift,” one person wrote.

Another commented: “Rachel was such a strong inspirational woman. I know she touched so many people’s lives by sharing her story.”

What did Yaffe share about her liver cancer diagnosis?

In 2023, Yaffe revealed more details about her diagnosis in a TikTok video, recalling how everyone initially attributed her symptoms to “anxiety.”

However, she soon had an ultrasound and met with a liver specialist, who told her she had a 20-centimeter tumor in her liver that was blocking blood flow to her calves and causing shoulder pain. After a biopsy, Yaffe learned that her tumor was a “very rare adolescent liver cancer.”

Over the past few years, Yaffe has kept her followers updated on the ups and downs of her cancer journey. In January 2024, she announced that she had recently started undergoing chemotherapy again.

A few months later, Yaffe had a tumor in her left lung that was pressing on her heart. After the tumor caused bleeding, she underwent surgery and radiation to treat it. As a result, she had difficulty walking and moving.

In June 2024, the TikToker gave an update on immunotherapy infusion treatments that had left her “so sluggish and tired.”

“I was really compassionate with myself because you know, life is hard, we go through things, we need to rest,” she said in a video.

In July 2024, Yaffe filmed a video in which she underwent proton therapy, a form of radiation. That same month, Yaffe said she developed her treatment plan with her medical team, which included an “alternative, integrated group of physicians.”

Yaffe shared her last TikTok post in September, revealing that she had “lost so much of my strength” during radiation. The social media star also said she is focusing on a “very strict diet (regime) to cure cancer.”

“I'm working on really just focusing on the little things that bring me joy and also really prioritizing my mental health,” she said.
