The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show is spreading its wings for the first time since 2018.

The retailer announced the return of its annual fashion show in an Instagram video in May, saying “we've been reading the comments and listening to you” in response to the six-year hiatus.

L Brands, the former parent company of Victoria's Secret, canceled the show in 2019, citing its decision at the time to end the fashion show to “evolve the marketing of Victoria's Secret” amid declining ratings and criticism of body positivity.

The show, which returns in full form after half a decade after the brand premiered a scaled-down version on Prime Video last year, is scheduled to air Tuesday night from New York City.

The fashion show, launched in 1995, featured performances by high-profile musicians such as Rihanna, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd and Taylor Swift, as well as models such as Heidi Klum and Kendall Jenner. This week the brand announced that VS icon Adriana Lima would be returning to the show, and in late August it was announced that Gigi Hadid and Tyra Banks would also strut the VS stage.

Tuesday's show marks Banks' first VS fashion show in 20 years. Here's how to watch the return of the legendary fashion show.

When does the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show air?

The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show airs Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET on Amazon Prime Video and the brand's official YouTube page. The fashion show made a semi-return last year with Victoria's Secret's “The Tour '23,” a “reimagined” event that streamed on Prime Video.

The official pink carpet pre-show takes place on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. ET.

Which models and performers will appear at the 2024 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show?

The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show will feature legendary supermodels including Lima, Banks, Barbara Palvin, Jasmine Tookes, Ashley Graham, Candice Swanepoel and Behati Prinsloo.

The show will feature performances from a number of female artists: Blackpink singer Lisa, Tyla and music legend Cher.

Tuesday's runway show marks the return to the VS stage for Lima, one of the brand's most iconic models of all time. In November 2018, the supermodel withdrew from the event that made her a household name in the fashion industry.

Lima, then 37, strutted alone and visibly teary-eyed as she reached the end of the runway as the crowd stood to cheer on the supermodel as she walked in her 19th and final VS show. The now 43-year-old model also commented on her exit from the annual star-studded event in an Instagram post at the time.

“Dear Victoria, thank you for showing me the world, sharing your secrets and most importantly not just giving me wings but teaching me to fly,” she wrote in the caption.

Noticeably missing from this year's model range is Jenner.

What's new at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show?

In an updated brand values statement released in August, the company now says it stands for “celebrating all women.”

“We focused on our customers' wants and needs – ensuring they are proud to shop at Victoria's Secret,” the statement said. “We have moved from promoting an exclusionary view of what is sexy to celebrating all women at every stage of their lives.”

The statement continued: “We will continue this work and strive to be an industry leader in retail innovation, fashion, sustainability and continuous ingenuity – getting to the heart of what our diverse customer base wants.”

The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show was canceled due to controversy

In 2019, the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show was canceled due to numerous controversies.

In May of that year, the brand announced it was rethinking the show. In a statement sent to company employees at the time and obtained by USA TODAY, former L Brands CEO Les Wexner revealed that the show would be going in a different direction.

“Fashion is a business of change,” Wexner said in a statement in 2019. “We have to evolve and change in order to grow. With this in mind, we decided to rethink the traditional Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. For the future, that's what we're doing.” I don't think network television is the right solution.

“Given the decline in performance at Victoria's Secret, we have significantly reduced capital investment in this business as we focus on ensuring our merchandise resonates with customers,” L Brands said in its third-quarter earnings report.

The show's 2018 viewership of 3.27 million viewers was the smallest since it became a holiday season TV event in 2001. Nielsen said the show lost more than half of its television viewers in two years.

But that wasn't all. In a November 2018 interview with Vogue, former L Brands marketing executive Ed Razek said he didn't think the show should include “transsexuals” because “the show is a fantasy.”

“If you're asking if we thought about putting a transgender model on the show or if we thought about putting a plus-size model on the show, then we did,” he added. “We tried to do a plus-size TV special in 2000. Nobody was interested in it and still isn't.” He later apologized for his comments, telling readers they “came across as offensive.”
