A flooded football pitch has led to a delay in the start of the World Cup qualifier between Lionel Messi-led Argentina and Venezuela on Thursday.

It appears that representatives from both clubs came together to discuss the extremely wet playing surface. Stadium workers have been trying to drain water from the saturated field. At least two workers tried to throw a ball to each other, which also caused a large amount of water to be thrown up from the surface.

It is unclear whether both teams will play the game, which was scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. ET today at Monumental Stadium in Maturín, Venezuela.
