PHILADELPHIA – Eagles wide receiver AJ Brown has a good idea of what Saquon Barkley is going through as Barkley faces his former team, the New York Giants, for the first time.

Brown experienced this in 2022 when he faced his former team, the Tennessee Titans, after the Titans traded him to the Eagles. All week, Brown had downplayed any additional motivation, much like Barkley did this week before Sunday's game against the Giants, where Barkley spent his first six seasons.

After that game, Brown said the game actually meant more to him. Brown had 8 catches for 119 yards and 2 touchdowns in the Eagles' 35-10 win.

“I think he handled it as best as he could,” Brown said of Barkley. “You know, of course I think the beast will be let out on Sunday. He does a great job of taking it one day at a time. He does what he does regularly. He just comes to work and does these things.”

Brown was then asked if it was difficult not to get too excited during the week.

“It’s not hard,” Brown said. “You can just control your emotions throughout the week because you don’t play anyone during the week. Don't try to make it bigger than it is because at the end of the day it comes down to playing on Sunday and that's what you have to deal with. “It's like any other week.”

Beyond that, the Giants will focus on stopping Barkley, or at least not giving him a big game. Of course, that could lead to more attention focused on Barkley and less on Brown and the Eagles' star wide receiver in DeVonta Smith.

That's totally fine with Smith.

“As a receiver, that’s what you want,” Smith said. “We want people to focus on Saquon because then we’re one-on-one.”
