Although Wardle was the original brains behind it, he freely admits that he is no expert on the game.

During an interview with Newsweek, Wardle said, “Well, I created something Wordle and I'm not very good at it, so here's your answer! I'm afraid I'm not really the best.

“(My partner) and I play it together on the couch every morning. She always does it in three passes, which is much, much better than I can ever achieve. It usually takes me at least four or five tries.”

Wardle added that he had no inside information about what the words of the day would be.

“When I designed the game I wanted it to be fun for me and my partner, so I made sure all the entries were randomly selected. In other words, I don't actually know what the word is going to be tomorrow, which means it's like, “I can join in like everyone else,” Wardle said Newsweek.

Keen to avoid telling anyone how to play the game, Wardle also said, “I think with this type of game, part of the joy is discovering these things for yourself, right?”

“That’s why I hesitate to tell anyone how to play. I would encourage people to experiment with different ideas and find their own (starting) words rather than sticking with the same tried and tested tactics over and over again.”
