Trail Blazers get their first preseason win at the Sacramento Kings

The Portland Trail Blazers took advantage of a poor shooting night from the Sacramento Kings, getting a double-double from rookie center Donovan Clingan in a 105-85 win Sunday at Golden 1 Center.

Clingan scored 10 points with 10 rebounds off the bench and point guard Scoot Henderson had a much better night than in the season opener. Henderson led the Blazers with 17 points and added seven assists with just one turnover.

New forward Deni Avdija, who missed Friday night's 101-99 loss in Seattle to the LA Clippers, started but scored just five points with five rebounds in less than 20 minutes of play. He shot 2 of 8 from the field and 1 of 4 from three-pointers.

The Blazers, still without Shaedon Sharpe (shoulder), Robert Williams III (hamstring), Anfernee Simons (ankle) and Matisse Thybulle (knee), started Toumani Camara at shooting guard while Kris Murray returned to the bench.

Camara scored 13 points with four rebounds. Starting center Deandre Ayton scored 11 points with eight rebounds.

The Blazers' bench scored 50 points, led by Delano Banton with 12. He also added six rebounds.

WHAT IT MEANS

The Blazers (1-1) didn't play much better offensively than they did Friday night, but defensively they made life difficult for the Kings.

Sacramento shot 41.7% from the field and made just 5 of 28 three-pointers (17.9%). The Kings committed 27 turnovers, which the Blazers converted into 33 points.

HENDERSON RISE

Henderson performed well after a poor shooting performance on Friday night. Against the Clippers, he scored 13 points on 4 of 16 shooting (1 of 6 on threes) and committed seven turnovers.

On Sunday he showed better attack control and better ball control.

However, he didn't shoot very well, making 5 of 13 shots, including 1 of 3 from long range.

Pacemaker

The Blazers increased the pace again.

Portland played at a pace of 106.4 compared to 102.1 against the Clippers.

Last season, Portland had a possession rate of 97.9 per 48 minutes, ranking 21st in the NBA.

A stated goal this season is to play with more speed.
