Travis Hunter of the CU Buffs leaves the Kansas State game with an apparent injury

BOULDER — CU two-way star Travis Hunter was ejected from the Buffs' game against Kansas State on Saturday night and taken to the locker room for evaluation.

Hunter, the Heisman Trophy candidate who leads the Buffs in interceptions, catches and receiving yards, was hit by K-State safety Daniel Cobb on a 14-yard reception with 8:08 left in the second quarter.

Instead of coming out with the Buffs defense to play cornerback when the Wildcats got the ball back, CU used Colton Hood in Hunter's place.

ESPN sideline reporter Quint Kessenich reported during the game that the junior's right shoulder was being examined.

When asked by a Post reporter during halftime, a university spokesman said he had no immediate information on the Buffs star's status.

CU announced early in the third quarter that both Hunter and fellow wideout Jimmy Horn Jr. were “questionable” to return with undisclosed injuries.

Hunter, who averaged more than 120 snaps per game as a defensive back and wide receiver, hasn't missed a game this season.

The Georgia native suffered a ruptured liver in the Buffs' win over CSU in the 2023 Rocky Mountain Showdown and missed three games, resulting in a 46-43 home loss to Stanford.

The Buffs trailed K-State 14-7 at halftime.
