Trump Media Stock Rises Amid Election and Truth Social News

Shares of Trump media closed down more than 18% on Monday, extending the Truth Social owner's dramatic recovery from recent stock price lows and adding hundreds of millions of dollars to Donald Trump's net worth on paper.

The latest DJT surge came as betting odds on several online election betting markets appeared to have shifted in Trump's favor after weeks of being tilted toward Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris.

Monday's increase also coincided with Trump Media's launch of a new website for its TV streaming app Truth+.

Trump Media traded at its intraday peak above $30 per share and closed at $29.95.

The stock has seen a sharp trading surge in recent sessions, with shares exchanging hands at multiples of the company's 30-day average volume. More than 57 million shares were traded on Monday.

Last week, bets on the outcome of the presidential election hosted by contract exchange Kalshi and prediction trading platforms Polymarket and PredictIt showed the odds of a Trump victory growing.

These online gambling platforms, which are not based on methodologically sound data, have shifted, although recent surveys continue to show a neck-and-neck race nationally and in key swing states.

Analysts have long suggested that many of Trump Media's retail investors are fans of the former president, buying and selling the shares to support him or bet on his chances of retaking the White House.

This dynamic could explain why the company behind Truth Social has a market cap of nearly $6 billion but still has a comparatively small user base and generates little revenue.

Trump owns nearly 57% of the company's shares – worth about $3.4 billion at Monday's closing price. According to Forbes, he has vowed not to sell his stake, which currently accounts for more than half of his net worth on paper.

Meanwhile, Trump Media announced Monday morning the launch of a separate website for its in-platform streaming service Truth+.

While a scaled-down version of Truth+ already exists on Truth Social, the new site offers the “full suite” of the company's streaming programming, Trump Media said in a press release.

The site claims to offer more than 1,000 “new films and series”, including exclusive content. The company's stated goal is to expand Truth+ to iOS devices and other television-related platforms while making the service “uncancellable by Big Tech.”

But most of the film and television offerings seem to have been released years ago. And almost all available movies are also available on Tubi, another free streaming video platform.

Some of the content also appears to have been created using artificial intelligence tools.

A 40-minute “documentary” about Al Capone, for example, consists of little more than a slideshow of clearly AI-generated photos, accompanied by an AI voiceover and a repeating music track. It is claimed that John Smith directed and Michael Smith wrote the screenplay.

This article, “Al Capone: The Facts About Al Capone,” is currently featured in the Featured Content carousel on the Truth+ website.
