Two tropical storms formed in the Caribbean on Sunday, contributing to a very busy end to the Atlantic hurricane season.

Tropical Storm Nadine formed early in the day in the western Caribbean and is moving west toward Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. It made landfall near Belize City, Belize, around 12 p.m. Eastern time. The storm's maximum wind speeds were around 60 miles per hour, the National Hurricane Center said.

Tropical storm conditions are expected across Belize and the Yucatan Peninsula through Saturday afternoon.

Heavy rain will continue across Honduras to the Yucatan Peninsula and extend west into southern Mexico by the weekend. This heavy rain may cause flash flooding and travel delays, particularly near the storm's landfall and in the mountains from Oaxaca to Veracruz.

Locally gusty winds are expected Saturday in Quintana Roo, Mexico, much of Belize and far northeastern Guatemala, which could lead to downed trees and power outages.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Oscar – the 15th named storm of the hurricane season – formed east of the Turks and Caicos Islands, bringing tropical storm warnings for nearby islands including the southeastern Bahamas and the northern provinces of Cuba.

Oscar, which the hurricane described as “small,” was moving west at 13 mph (21 km/h), bringing maximum sustained winds of 25 mph (40 km/h).

AccuWeather hurricane experts believe there is no risk of tropical systems making landfall in the United States or of a tropical system having a direct impact in the United States in general, at least for the remainder of October.
