Tyrese Maxey's game status for the Sixers-Celtics preseason game

Tyrese Maxey's game status for the Sixers-Celtics preseason game

The Philadelphia 76ers will be back on the floor Saturday night for a matchup against the Boston Celtics. Given that it's the second night of a back-to-back game, many have been wondering about the playing status of the team's All-Star guard Tyrese Maxey.

As expected, Maxey will get a night off in Boston. When the Sixers announced their starting five against the Celtics, Maxey was left out. Instead, the Sixers will face Jeff Dowtin Jr. and Duke rookie Jared McCain that night.

Maxey was available for both of the Sixers' preseason games this year.

Against the New Zealand Breakers, Maxey dominated with 15 points in just 12 minutes. He also provided three assists en route to a stunning Sixers victory over the NBL team.

On Friday evening, Maxey received a confirmation to take part in the Sixers' game against the Minnesota Timberwolves in Iowa. Once again Maxey had an outstanding solo performance.

Maxey knocked down 14 shots from the field in just over 25 minutes. He made half of his attempts and hit four of his seven shots from distance. After three free throws, Maxey finished the game with 21 points. In the points standings he was only behind Paul George.

In two games, Maxey has averaged 18 points in under 20 minutes. He knocked down nearly 60 percent of his shots and averages over 65 percent from three.

The Sixers are hoping their first-time All-Star guard will take another step forward following this campaign. While Maxey and Joel Embiid will be joined by another All-Star this year in Paul George, the young guard doesn't expect to fade into the background.

The 76ers re-signed Maxey to a major contract extension to keep him a cornerstone of the franchise. The NBA's most improved player has high expectations from here on out.
