Utah will remain warmer than average and have high pressure

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) – Happy Monday, Utah! It was a lovely start to the day as temperatures continue to be above normal across the country, with most areas 10 to 15 degrees above normal.

That means daytime high temperatures will reach the low to mid 80s across much of northern Utah, while the southern half of the state will reach the 80s and 90s. A southwesterly flow will bring some moisture into the state and partly cloudy skies are expected tonight into Tuesday.

In Utah, highs will remain above average, but cooling may be on the horizon

While moisture will be limited tonight, heavy rain is possible over mountainous areas, with the risk of gusty winds in the valleys. The greatest chance of showers today will be over west-central Utah.

On Tuesday we will see some more moisture move through the area. Nothing too dramatic though – just a few isolated mountain-based showers moving further north by Tuesday afternoon.

Not much rain is expected, but watch for some fast, gusty winds in the afternoon that could continue shortly after sunset.

That being said, it's staying warmer than usual, so we won't be breaking out the sweaters any time soon!

Weather-wise, there's nothing too exciting for the rest of the week. A large ridge stretching from Southern California to the northern plains provides quite a bit of stability.

Expect more of the same: warm, dry and a little hotter than normal. Northern Utah will see highs in the low to mid 80s, and southern Utah will see highs in the upper 80s to mid 90s.

The closer the weekend gets, the more interesting it could get. There's a chance an approaching system could bring some cooler air and a small chance of rain, but about half of the forecasts are for us to stay warm and dry. If the system comes through, temperatures could drop by about 5 degrees, but for now it's a bit of a mess.
