Numerous photos and videos captured the bright streak of light, which was visible for several seconds as it raced across the sky.

A busy week for stargazers

Monday evening was also the peak of the Orionid meteor shower, which is active from September 26th to November 22nd this year.

The meteors, widely considered by astronomers to be the most beautiful showers of the year, hurtle into Earth's atmosphere at about 148,000 miles per hour at their peak, leaving behind glowing trails of debris that can last for several seconds or even several minutes, NASA says. If they move fast enough, the meteors can also create fireballs that appear as long-lasting explosions of light.
