Warriors and Moses Moody agree to three-year, million rookie contract extension: source

The Golden State Warriors and reserve wing Moses Moody agreed to a fully guaranteed three-year, $39 million contract extension before Monday's deadline, league sources said The athlete on Sunday. ESPN first reported the news.

The deal keeps Moody under team control for the next four seasons at a reasonable price as the salary cap increases. Moody begins its prime with an interest rate slightly below the median exception.

Moody had a great training camp in Hawaii that received rave reviews from players and coaches, leading to a strong preseason in which he led the Warriors in scoring in several games.

To have a better chance of cracking Steve Kerr's rotation on a regular basis, Moody was told he needed to increase his catch-and-shoot speed and volume. He did both, shooting 13 of 31 from deep, largely on catch-and-shoot opportunities both in transition and in the halfcourt.

“He’s going to play a big role for us,” Kerr said. “But that also applies to many others. We sit in the dugout every day and ask ourselves, “How are we going to play against all these guys?” Because they all deserve to play. I asked them all to do their best and make it difficult for us.”

Moody is still about the ninth or 10th man when the premiere begins in Portland on Wednesday. He's competing for minutes against Jonathan Kuminga, Andrew Wiggins, Buddy Hield, Brandin Podziemski, De'Anthony Melton and Gary Payton II. It's a crowded scene.

However, this is a statement from Golden State's front office that believes in his talent and character for the long term, regardless of Moody's unknown role.

For Moody, it's a chance to be an NBA safety into his mid-20s.

Moody remains trade-eligible this season, but this extension makes the math more difficult. For matching purposes, he counts as an outgoing figure at $5.8 million (his current annual salary), but for incoming purposes for the acquiring team he counts as $11.2 million (the average salary for his next four seasons).
