Washington Commanders learn hard lessons in loss to Baltimore Ravens

Hoping to continue their winning streak, the Washington Commanders came up short on Sunday, losing 30-23 to the Baltimore Ravens in the highly anticipated “Battle of the Beltway.” It's hard not to feel defeated after such a hard-fought battle, but head coach Dan Quinn offers a different perspective, saying, “We're trying to learn the lessons that are being applied to us.” What will we take away from this game ?”

Two of the Commander's biggest challenges on defense came from Ravens rookie wide receiver Zay Flowers and running back Derrick Henry. The Ravens' defense slowed the Commander's offensive momentum, giving the Ravens chances to capitalize. Quinn's words couldn't ring truer: “I think there are certain things we can get better at in this game, a lot better. That's what I expect from us.”

Injuries also played a significant role in today's defeat. Dorance Armstrong suffered a rib injury that did not return until Sunday's game. “Different people had to step up,” Quinn noted. There was simply a lack of cohesion for Washington today, with the team struggling to maintain rhythm on both sides.

But it wasn't just penalties and injuries, the mental game also became a hurdle. Quinn stressed the importance of maintaining composure in difficult moments: “There were some players that went down, some injuries, some penalties in the third period, (and) when that happens you have to attack in the next series .” So even on the hardest ride, on the long ride, they get a penalty. You can't get discouraged on the next drive.” Unfortunately for Washington, the Ravens' long drives combined with mistakes seemed to discourage the Commanders, leading to missed opportunities when it mattered most.

Despite the loss, Quinn's words point to the bigger picture. It's about learning from every game, correcting mistakes and improving as the season progresses. “You want to get better in every game,” Quinn said, and for the Commanders the road ahead is about turning those lessons into future victories.
