Week 3 of 'Dancing With the Stars': Gene Simmons dishes out two season premieres: A 10 and Inappropriateness

This article contains spoilers for the October 8 episode of Dancing With the Stars.

Kiss frontman Gene Simmons handed the first 10 points of the season to model Brooks Nader when he served as a guest judge for “Hair Metal Night” on Tuesday's episode of “Dancing With the Stars,” but that score was mysteriously lowered to 9 in the final balance sheet.

Although he held up a 10 paddle, co-host Julianne Hough told Simmons that he “actually put in a 9,” which was added to Nader's score total.

Viewers shuddered at the 75-year-old rocker's comments about the dancers' bodies, which generated more online chatter than the two celebs sent home, the oldest (and stiffest) dancers: Eric Roberts and Reginald VelJohnson.

Olympic rugby player Ilona Maher, who performed a jive to Quiet Riot's 'Cum On Feel the Noize', also finished in the bottom three but was saved by audience votes.

Before handing the 10 to Nader, Simmons told the 28-year-old: “Look, I'm not the technical guy here…” If you did something more technical, you'd wipe the floor with everyone, but your charisma, your personality “It’s out of this world… Keep working, darling, because you’re a good dancer and you’re awfully hot too.”

Earlier in the evening, he told Chandler Kinney, 24, “You touched me, not just with your movements and stuff, but (with) your beautiful face and how much you felt the emotions of it.”

Later, Simmons told the audience to “calm down” because “this is a family show.”

“Oh, Now You care,” replied co-host Alfonso Ribeiro.

Social media reaction to Simmons' comment: WTF?

One person shared a GIF from “Veep” of Julia Louis-Dreyfus nervously laughing “WTF?” with the caption: “#DWTS producers watch Gene Simmons bring out the first '10' of the season.”

Ribeiro apologizes for use of song “Rock You Like a Hurricane”

That evening featured performances of hair metal classics from Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Twisted Sister and Whitesnake, with big hair, guitars and cars. NBA star Dwight Howard, who performed a cape-twirling paso doble to Aerosmith's “Walk This Way,” said his rock 'n' roll attitude comes from watching real bullfighters.

However, Ribeiro apologized for the ill-timed choice of the evening's final song, “Rock You Like a Hurricane” by the Scorpions, amid reports that Hurricane Milton is expected to make landfall on Wednesday, just days after the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene.

“We want you to know that these songs were selected weeks before the devastating weather events. Of course, our hearts go out to those who have suffered from the ongoing storms in the Southeast and whose lives continue to be impacted. If you would like to help now, you can donate to support the relief and recovery efforts at RedCross.org/abc,” he said.

Due to the double elimination on Tuesday, the field of participants shrank from eleven couples to nine. After taking time off last week for the vice presidential debate, the dancers had two consecutive nights of performances beginning Monday, “Soul Train Night.”

The live viewer votes from the week's two nights of competition were combined with the judges' scores from both nights to determine who was in danger.

Next week, “Dancing With the Stars” returns to its weekly Tuesday night schedule. Episodes will be simulcast live on ABC and Disney+ in local time zones and streamed the next day on Hulu.
