Temperatures in Middle Tennessee will soon become significantly colder.

According to the National Weather Service, the first frost of the season will occur across the region on Tuesday and Wednesday, with areas along the Cumberland Plateau likely to experience subfreezing temperatures.

In Nashville, temperatures are expected to reach 37°C on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Surrounding areas such as Clarksville and Lafayette will be slightly colder, but Crossville is expected to see temperatures in the low 30s.

“If you have sensitive vegetation, you should begin planning to protect it,” the weather service wrote.

The first frost of the season will occur Tuesday night into Wednesday morning and again Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Temperatures in Nashville are expected to drop to 37°C.

What possible effects can frost have in Middle Tennessee?

The Weather Service recommends covering sensitive plants that cannot be brought indoors during frost.

According to Old Farmer's Almanac, covering plants with a blanket or row cover — available at garden stores — is the best way to protect delicate vegetation because the material retains heat.
