Drake Maye has received rave reviews in the Patriots locker room for his leadership and good character early in his NFL career.

An anecdote from his high school football coach illustrates how one of Maye's selfless traits comes to the fore on Sundays.

The Patriots have released a new mini-documentary chronicling Maye's journey from North Carolina to the NFL, including stories from Maye's brothers, parents and former coaches.

In the video, Maye's high school football coach Scott Chadwick tells a story about how Maye checks the stat book at halftime of his football games. He just didn't pay attention to his completions, passing yards or touchdowns.

“My middle son was our stat guy, and I said something to him: 'What's Drake doing?'” Chadwick said. “He says, 'Dad, he doesn't look at his stats, he looks at how many balls each player caught in the first half.' And then he came to me and suggested plays where the guys who hadn't caught a lot of balls could get some balls.

“He was always looking to make everyone happy.”

Maye only has one NFL start to his name, but it already looks like he's putting in the same effort to keep his offensive players happy in New England.

According to Taylor Kyles of PatriotsCLNS, the Patriots had a season-high eight different receivers score multiple targets against the Texans. DeMario Douglas was Mayes' favorite target and received nine passes his way. He and Kayshon Boutte each caught their first career touchdown passes in Maye's first game.

So Maye is certainly still as active in keeping his Patriots teammates happy as he was back in high school.

Maye will seek his first win at the helm of New England's offense on Sunday when the Patriots take on the Jaguars in London. The game will air at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time.
