WNBA Finals result and live updates: New York Liberty take a 44-36 halftime lead over the Minnesota Lynx

Bridget Carleton and Kayla McBride were flamethrowers against the Liberty, combining to make 28 of 51 shots from 3-point range over the four games. Even for two players who shot over 40 percent during the regular season, that level of accuracy and volume is impressive — and one of the reasons New York allowed 83.3 points per game against Minnesota, about seven points above its season average.

The Liberty's defense has been statistically worse in the postseason, but that's partly because they faced Las Vegas four straight times. New York has become more versatile and switchable since their last meeting against the Lynx, and that's because Fiebich was added to the starting lineup. Minnesota attacked Vandersloot relentlessly during their final regular season meeting, forcing help and creating open 3-point shots. Fiebich had better keep up, even against the Lynx offense that is characterized by movement and intent. This should prevent the Liberty from spinning and avoid springy leaks at the 3-point line.

Minnesota is still capable of getting hot from distance – three players shot at least 40 percent from 3-point range during the regular season, and Alanna Smith was close behind at 39.8. However, the Lynx offense is about creating great looks, not relying on individual players completing heat checks. If New York can remain more structurally sound on defense with its new lineup, Minnesota's offensive power could diminish.
