The Minnesota Timberwolves and New York Knicks faced each other for the first time since the blockbuster deal that sent Karl-Anthony Towns to New York in exchange for Donte DiVincenzo, Julius Randle and Keita Bates-Diop, and the game didn't work out Fireworks ended without them.

Things got particularly tense between DiVincenzo and his former team on his return to Madison Square Garden in the Knicks' 115-110 win.

After a video surfaced in which DiVincenzo appeared to be seen telling his former bank, “Thanks for the trade, Thibs. Thanks for the swap…that's what happens when they let you run the show. That's what happens when they let you run the show.” “It appears there is bad blood between DiVincenzo and the Knicks.

“Obviously they saw me on video when I said it,” DiVincenzo said reporter after the game. “I’m not there anymore, I play competitively, I wear my heart on my sleeve and that’s it.”

That wasn't the end of it for the 27-year-old from Villanova.

After the game, he had to be separated from Knicks assistant coach Rick Brunson after the two exchanged heated words.

Before the game, the Knicks played a tribute video for DiVincenzo, who spent one season with the team, and Randle, who spent five seasons.

“It’s special to me that they show the video, say thank you and include me in the video with Julius,” DiVincenzo said. “It was special.”

DiVincenzo was the Timberwolves' second-leading scorer on the night with 15 points, three rebounds and seven assists.

The Timberwolves will travel to Chicago to take on the Bulls on Wednesday as opening night of the 2024-2025 season approaches.
