Woman dead, suspect arrested after shooting turns into police chase that ends in Charles County

A suspect is in police custody after sending officers on a chase into Charles County shortly after a shooting in Lexington Park that left a woman dead.

Police said officers were called to a report of a gunshot victim in the 46000 block of Rosewood Drive in Lexington Park, Maryland, on Wednesday morning. The shooting victim, who was a 25-year-old woman, was located at the scene and transported to a local hospital where she later died.

Police quickly determined the shooting was an isolated incident.

Authorities said the suspected shooter led officers on a chase from Lexington Park to Hughesville, Charles County, before he was taken into custody.

The suspect was transported from the scene to an area hospital after police said he suffered an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The extent of his injuries is currently unknown.

According to the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office, no officers fired their weapons during the chase.

Police are currently investigating the area of ​​Rosewood Drive in Lexington Park, where the shooting originally occurred. And the area of ​​the 15000 block of Prince Frederick Road in Hughesville, where the suspect was held.
