Yahya Sinwar throws stick at IDF drone that killed him, footage shows – Israel News

Former Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar threw a stick at the IDF drone that attacked him shortly before his assassination on Thursday, the Israeli military showed in released footage.

In the footage, a masked Sinwar is circled in red with the stick he threw at the drone.

Sinwar is then seen throwing the stick towards the drone while sitting on a couch, surrounded by the rubble of the building he was in.

IDF spokesman R.-Adm. Daniel Hagari released the footage late Thursday evening during his statement confirming Sinwar's death, in which he described the events leading up to the assassination.

“Sinwar was hiding in an area that our forces had surrounded for a long period of time. We didn’t know he was there, but we moved forward with determination,” Hagari explained.

Hagari then described that the attack was carried out after the IDF identified three terrorists fleeing between houses in Gaza.

“Sinwar fled alone into one of the buildings. Our forces have been scanning the area with a drone, which you can see here in the footage I present.”

After presenting the footage, Hagari explained: “Sinwar, who was shot in the hand, is seen here with his face covered, throwing a wooden plank at the drone in his final moments. We identified him as a terrorist in a building.” We shot at the building and then went searching. We found him with a vest, a pistol and 40,000 shekels. He was on the run and was eliminated by our forces.

“Sinwar was responsible for the most brutal attack against Israel in our history, when terrorists from Gaza invaded Israel,” Hagari stressed.

“Last year, Sinwar tried to evade justice. He failed. We said we would find him and bring him to justice, and we did. It was Yahya Sinwar who decided to wage war with Israel while hiding behind civilians in Gaza,” he added.
