Zach Edey makes NBA debut with the Grizzlies

Zach Edey, who long made a name for himself in college as the Purdue Boilermakers' 7-foot-4 Titan, finally made his long-awaited professional debut on Monday.

Edey, drafted No. 9 by the Memphis Grizzlies, is expected to be the team's fifth starter at the center position and did just that on Monday, flanking superstar Ja Morant as well as Desmond Bane, Marcus Smart and Santi Aldama.

Even though he didn't stuff the stat sheet that night, he's already shown a glimpse of what he could be for Memphis this year. In 18 minutes, Edey scored six points, seven rebounds, a block and a steal and shot 3 of 4 overall.

He nearly fouled out with five fouls, a blow to his sometimes slow defense before the draft. But he has plenty of time to figure things out and was without his versatile on-field teammate Jaren Jackson Jr. for Monday's game.

There were no signs of Edey's expected 3-point prowess, but the former Boilermaker will have plenty more time to show off in the remainder of the preseason and regular season.

The Grizzlies eventually got the ball, thwarted the Mavericks' late comeback and won 121-116. Brandon Clarke led Memphis with 17 points.

Edey and the Grizzlies are back in action with a match against the Charlotte Hornets on Thursday, October 10th at 7 p.m
